Acupuncture is a holistic Chinese therapy that is over two thousand years old. It is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is based on the theory of Qi (pronounced ‘chee’), the life force or energy that runs through the body along energy channels.
Illness occurs when the flow of energy is blocked or flows the wrong way; this may be due to many lifestyle factors such as diet, overwork and stress or may be due to genetic factors. Stimulating acupuncture points along energy channels can activate the body’s natural healing responses or immune system. By inserting fine needles at specific areas we can direct the body’s energy to where it is needed to regain a smooth flow of Qi throughout the body. Effectively acupuncture works by alerting the body to the site of illness and teaching it to heal itself.
Other treatments that may be used are cupping, moxibustion and electro Acupuncture.
