Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese therapy that is over 2000 years old. It is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is based on the theory of Qi (pronounced 'chee'), the life force or vital energy that runs through the body along meridians (or energy channels).
Illness occurs when the flow of energy is blocked or flows the wrong way; this may be due to many lifestyle factors such as diet and stress. Studies suggest stimulating points along meridians can activate the body’s healing responses or immune system. By inserting fine needles in these points we can direct the body’s energy to where it is needed to regain a smooth flow of Qi throughout the body.
Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment and is used to help a wide range of conditions, from relieving dental pain to nausea and vomiting, tension headaches and oestoarthritis pain. Please get in touch to dicsuss how acupuncture could help you.
About Your Practitioner
Eleanor grew up in south London and received acupuncture from a young age. The impact of this and her travels to Asia encouraged her to study Chinese medicine as a healing system and a way of life.
She is a fully accredited member of the British Acupuncture Council (MBAcC) and holds a BSc (Hon's) degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture from the University of Westminster. This degree incorporated both Western and Eastern aspects of medicine. Modules in western science included anatomy, physiology, pathology and pathophysiology.
As part of her training and additional volunteering, Eleanor has practiced in the NHS Gateway clinic in south London and at the University Polyclinic near Regents Street. She has completed a continuing professional development course in Facial Acupuncture and undertook post-graduate training in China, at the Zhejiang Chinese Medical University in Hangzhou and the prestigious Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine. In China, Eleanor worked alongised doctors who employ acupuncture to aid fertility, ease mentrual cramps and headaches, and rehabilitate stroke victims.
She has practiced at Neal’s Yard Therapy Rooms in Borough market (London Bridge) and is the co founder of Brixton Acupuncture - an affordable multi-bed clinic that offers treatment to all. See www.brixtonacupuncture.co.uk for more information. She is currently practicing privately at Body Alliance in Brixton and Tian Garden Acupuncture in Waterloo.
Occasionally Eleanor does home visits in London for those unable to travel to the clinic for acupuncture. Please contact her for more information. |
